In 1960, building work began on the Arese plant, which went into production in 1963. The first car produced was the Giulia, which sold more than 1 million of its various versions.
Now the figure was 100,001!
In February 1961, production of the 100,001st Giulietta celebrated with the customary bottle of champagne. The ceremony at Portillo was presided over by the car's equally famous namesake: the actress Giulietta Masina.

Technology and safety as standard

The new Alfa Romeo MiTo is therefore self-avowedly an Alfa to the core, confirming an uncompromising sense of control and driving satisfaction. Alfa Romeo cars have always had the special features of drive comfort and dynamic behaviour: in the case of this car they are undeniable strong points. The MiTo therefore offers as standard the most sophisticated array of electronic devices for dynamic control and safety. Hence the choice of two tried and tested layouts for the suspension system – a MacPherson configuration at the front and a semi-independent configuration with torsion beam at the rear.
Alfa Romeo DNA
The MiTo was the first Alfa Romeo car to be equipped with the Alfa DNA system, an innovative device that operates on the main driving parameters (engine response, stability control and steering assistance) adapting the car's personality to the needs of the driver and the different road conditions. The Alfa DNA system acts on the engine, brakes, steering, suspension and gearbox, allowing three different vehicle behaviour modes, depending on the most suitable driving style for the conditions or the desires of the driver: supersporty mode, Dynamic; urban mode, Natural; and maximum safety even in low grip conditions, All Weather mode.

Technology and safety as standard

The standard equipment of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta includes state-of-the-art electronic systems for dynamic control and safety. The advanced McPherson front suspension and MULTILINK rear suspension have been designed to provide perfect balance even at the limit.
Furthermore, the Giulietta ensures the best driving conditions at all times using the Alfa DNA selector which selects three driving modes: Dynamic, Natural and All Weather.
All these systems guarantee genuine Alfa Romeo driving safety, vehicle traction and performance. The Giulietta suspension system expresses its dual spirit: sporty and entertaining, yet dominable and comfortable.

The system allows the car's personality to be adapted to the needs of the driver and different road conditions
When the selector is in DYNAMIC position, the car's performance is exactly as you would expect from the sporting spirit of any Alfa Romeo: the engine response is immediate, delivery is substantial due to the overboost, while the Electronic Q2 differential allows corners to be tackled in complete safety
With the selector set to NATURAL, even everyday driving becomes more fun, guaranteeing a comfortable, smooth drive at all times. Fuel consumption will be reduced to the minimum.
In ALL WEATHER mode, the Giulietta girds itself to face the most difficult grip conditions, alerting all its active safety systems, including the VDC and Electronic Q2. The engine response will become more gradual and controlled.

Safety

The new Alfa Romeo 159 is the undisputed benchmark for road holding. High torsional rigidity, an exclusive high quadrilateral front suspension geometry and rear Multilink suspensions are only some of the sophisticated mechanical solutions that ensure top level control in all situations. These solutions mean that in the 159 you can enjoy the pleasure of tracing perfect lines and dominating the road in total safety. Additionally, the new Alfa 159 has some of the most sophisticated electronic systems for improving handling, braking capacity and control in limit conditions: ABS with EBD, VDC stability control system, ASR traction control, HBA for emergency braking, and Hill Holder assistance.
Electronic Q2
Controlled by the ESP control unit, this system exploits the braking system and creates a behaviour very similar to that of a limited slip differential. In particular, when accelerating through corners the front braking system appropriately applies the inner wheel brakes and consequently increases traction of the outer wheel (the one bearing the most load). As a consequence, torque is dynamically and continuously distributed between the front wheels according to driving conditions and the road surface. Electronic Q2, combined with an exclusive quadrilateral front suspension, accords particularly effective, sporty tuning.
